We understand replacing your double-glazed sash windows is one of the biggest purchases when improving your property. You want to ensure what is installed will not only look the part but will last the test of time. This is why we recommend to replace the whole wooden sash window and frame rather than restoring the existing box sash window.
Our timber sash windows come in a choice of engineered hardwood or engineered softwood, to ensure strength and durability. The windows benefit from A-rated argon gas filled glazing and seals to all joins, eliminating cold and draughts. Our products come factory sprayed with micro-porous paint in classic RAL colours.
A sash window weight is used to counter-balance the weight of a sliding sash window in a box sash window and thus hold the window sashes in position at any height.
As square steel weights are denser than their round cast iron counterparts, you can squeeze more weight into your window box allowing you to compensate for heavier wooden sliding sash windows.
Our timber sliding sash windows are manufactured with a 98mm wide box on the top and each side of the window to house the weights.
Our sliding sash windows use double sprung balances which provide greater mechanical aid. The inner & outer springs provide equal tension perfectly matching the weight of our sliding sash windows. Featuring a larger, 17mm diameter design, Ultralift balances can be specified for use in standard timber box sash window designs. Unlike Spirex, Spiralift and Alumatilt balances, Ultralift sash window balances are double sprung, offering increased efficiency and a smoother operation on your traditional wooden windows. Because of this double sprung design, they can offer the customer up to 75% increased mechanical advantage compared with standard operation. They can also be installed in systems heavier than single sprung alternatives, being able to support sashes up to 27kg in weight, so are suitable for use in more substantial window frames.
Our timber sash windows on springs are manufactured with a 65mm wide box on the top and each side of the window to house the springs.
Flush timber casement windows are a very traditional window design and have been used for over 200 years. Dating back to the 19th century, all windows, which would have been constructed using timber, were designed with flush fitting sashes and this is evident in many late Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties.
The clean, square lines of flush timber casement windows mean they can look good in all property types, from traditional to contemporary.
You can choose various glazing bar designs for a traditional look, or for a more modern appearance, a clear glass design means a larger glazed area and more light entering the room through your wooden casement window, various options are available for finishes from the RAL colour chart, both externally and internally, as well as a range of handle styles and optional peg stays that are available but not supplied by us mean that the flush casement window is extremely versatile.
We can supply and install hardwood casement windows and softwood casement windows.
Our softwood windows use a process where several pieces of softwood are glued together with opposing grain directions to form a single ‘laminated’ piece, this in turn leads to a very stable product, far outperforming solid generic softwoods. Less movement in the wood means that the paint or finish does not have to flex as much, ultimately leading to longer periods between re-finishing and maintenance of your softwood sash windows.
The process of bonding timber together to create a component that can be used in windows, doors, conservatories or stair cases has been used for over twenty years. However, it has only been in the last ten years that we have seen significant improvements with large European joinery companies investing in the equipment to produce laminated or engineered components in hardwood or softwood to compete against products offered by companies selling UPVC and aluminium clad systems.
The UK window and door market has been dominated by UPVC and composite products for the past 15 years. However, with the increase in availability of laminated timber components this has allowed the larger joinery manufacturers to produce high performance softwood windows and doors in timber that offers a sustainable and attractive alternative to plastic or aluminium.
